This delicious non-alcoholic mango margarita will be your favorite hydrating mocktail! No simple syrup required, this recipe only takes 5 minutes to make and even packs in natural electrolytes. A blend of mango, citrus, and sparkling water – this is the perfect summer drink!

A Quick Look: Virgin Mango Margarita Recipe
- Prep time: Less than 5 minutes.
- Servings – This will make 1 drink.
- Main ingredients: Mango juice, sparkling water, Himalayan sea salt, sumac, jalapeno, and coconut water or non-alcoholic tequila substitute.
- When to serve: For a refreshing mango drink, or for fun summer margarita mocktail everyone will love.
- Dietary information: This recipe fits a Mediterranean diet, gluten free, and dairy free, as well as vegetarian. This would not fit a HYH diet if you use the citrus substitute option. This is also a good added sugar-free margarita with no simple syrup! Only naturally occurring sugar from the mango juice.
- Why you’ll love it: If you love a good margarita, but want all the flavors without the alcohol, this recipe is for you. Many recipes just use lime, but this spicy mango margarita mocktail has a great depth of flavor. Make it into an electrolyte drink by using coconut water, or use a non-alcoholic tequila replacement instead for a more traditional flavor.
The sumac and mineral salt rim add some tart flavor and natural electrolytes for a hydration boost. This margarita mocktail is a cross between a margarita and a ranch water – delicious, bubbly and not overly sweet.
Delicious on a warm summer day and pairs perfectly with dry rub baby back ribs in the oven, mozzarella queso, or Mexican grilled chicken. And for more refreshing electrolyte-rich drinks, try this ginger drink or nature’s gatorade.

Ingredients
Below are a few notes on where to find main ingredients and what to buy. Full ingredient amounts are given in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
- Mango juice – I prefer 100% mango juice, and Trader Joe’s sells these canned. If it’s hard to find, I’ve used a mixed mango juice before, or Sanzo makes a good mango sparkling water with real juice.
- Lime juice or citrus alternative – Fresh lime juice is preferred, or do a little acid adjustment with citric acid if you are trying to keep this low histamine or on the Heal Your Headache diet. Citric acid can be found online or in the bulk section of some grocery stores. It’s a white powder. If neither are tolerated, I recommend a splash of white vinegar for a little acidity.
- Coconut water or tequila substitute – Use coconut water if you’re looking for an electrolyte-boosting drink, and the tequila substitute if you want a more classic flavor. See my recommendations for brands below.
- Sparkling water – A sparkling water with really good carbonation like Topo Chico or Gerolsteiner. You can also use club soda.
- Jalapeño – Completely optional, but great for a spicy margarita mocktail.
- Sumac salt – Sumac is a spice that’s got a great tart flavor to it and I like to blend it with Redmond Real Salt or any other mineral salt you like for a hydrating mocktail!
Other Substitutions
- Mango juice – Mango sparkling water can be used if you cannot find 100% juice or you can substitute orange juice (if tolerated), which is more similar to a classic margarita. I think pomegranate juice or watermelon juice would also work well!
- Citrus substitutes – Acid adjust with citric acid or a splash of white vinegar. If using citric acid, you will need 1/8 teaspoon and to add 1/3 cup of mango juice. If using vinegar, I recommend starting with 1/2 teaspoon.
Non-Alcoholic Tequila Substitutes

You have several different substitutes on the market now and I’ve tried a lot of them. Here is my feedback.
- Seedlip Notas de Agave – My favorite, I first tried this at a food blog conference as a ranch water mocktail and it was surprisingly like the real thing. It pairs very well with these flavors.
- Ritual Tequila Alternative – This was one of the original on the market. I find the flavor to be a bit more peppery, so better if you’re doing a spicy margarita mocktail.
- Lyre – Lyre makes a lot of good non-alcoholic options, but this isn’t my favorite blend. It tastes a little lighter than the others and is sometimes hard to notice in drinks.
How to Make a Non-Alcoholic Margarita

Step 1: Create the Himalayan salt rim. Blend the sumac and salt together on a plate, then wipe the edge of the glass with a wet cloth or some juice. Roll the glass into the seasoning blend so it coats the side.

Step 2: Add the mango juice, tequila alternative or coconut water, lime juice or a pinch of citric acid/vinegar to the bottom of a glass filled with ice and stir.

Step 3: If you want to make this into a spicy margarita mocktail, add in the slices of jalapeño. For extra spicy, you can muddle them with the mango juice using the back of a spoon.

Step 4: Top off the mocktails with sparkling water and stir with a spoon one more time to combine the flavors.
Make Ahead Tips
This is so easy to prep ahead, you can make a bunch in just 5 minutes.
For the spicy mango margarita mocktail – slice the jalapeños ahead of time and keep them in a small bowl in the fridge.
For regular margarita mocktails – Pre-salt the cups, and have the juices ready to pour, or combine the mango and lime juice ahead of time. If doing an acid-adjustment, it’s easier to add when mixing one glass together. Wait to add in the sparkling water and ice till just before serving.
Freezer tip – You can freeze the mango, coconut water, and lime juice into ice cubes, then top with sparkling water for a quick drink!
Meal Pairings
I love to serve this non-alcoholic mango margarita with some of my favorite Tex Mex dishes. It pairs great with these healthy beef enchiladas, air fryer chicken taquitos, or baked chicken flautas. For an easy meal, you’ll love them with this slow cooker enchilada casserole or slow cooker flank steak (makes a great Cuban-inspired bowl!).
For more of a summer meal, try them with this slow cooker pork shoulder (makes great bbq sandwiches!) or honey chipotle chicken sandwiches.

Easy Margarita Mocktail
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup mango juice*
- 1 tablespoon lime juice, or acid adjustment recommendations
- 1 ounce coconut water OR non-alcoholic tequila alternative , Seedlip Notas de Agave or Ritual Tequila Alternative recommended
- sparkling water to top off
- 1 jalapeño (optional)
Sumac Salt Rim
- 1 tablespoon kosher salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground sumac
- 1 teaspoon unrefined sea salt (Redmond's Real)
Instructions
- Add the sumac and salt together, mixing to combine, then pour into a plate.
- Using a lowball glass, rub the outer side of the glass with a lime half, then roll into the salt on the side. Add ice to fill, then add the juices, and tequila alternative. Stir till combined. You could also use a cocktail shaker if you have one. Fill to the top with sparkling water and stir again.
Margarita without lime (low histamine)
- Using a lowball glass, use a paper towel to add a little bit of juice to the side then roll into the salt on the side. Add ice to fill, then add 1/3 cup mango juice and tequila alternative. Mix in 1/8 teaspoon of citric acid or 1/2 teaspoon of white vinegar. Stir till combined. You could also use a cocktail shaker if you have one. Fill to the top with sparkling water and stir again.
Spicy Margarita
- Using a lowball glass, use a paper towel to add a little bit of juice to the side or rub with a lime half, then roll into the salt on the side. Add 2-3 jalapeño slices to the bottom of the glass. Fill with ice, then add the juices and tequila alternative. Stir till combined, using the spoon to smash some of the jalapeño. The more you smash the pepper and include seeds, the spicer it will be. You could also use a cocktail shaker if you have one. Fill to the top with sparkling water and stir again.
Notes
- 100% mango juice is the best but can be hard to find. Can be found at Sprouts or Trader Joe’s. Sanzo sparkling mango is a great substitute, or you can use other types of juices like pineapple, pomegranate, or watermelon. Sub orange juice for a more classic margarita.
- Coconut water – This will have less of that classic margarita flavor, but still tastes great and turns this into an electrolyte-rich mocktail. Great for hydration!
- I find topo chico or gerolsteiner to be the best sparkling water for this because of the extra carbonation. Club soda can also be used.
- Tequila alternative notes – For a spicy flavor profile, try Ritual tequila alternative. For a more classic flavor profile, try Seedlip.
- For low histamine/HYH – Use all mango juice, and lime alternatives (or omit the citrus completely).
