A Quick Look: Mixed Berry Mocktail

  • Prep time: Only 5 minutes.
  • Servings – This will make 2-3 drinks or 12 ice cubes.
  • Main ingredients: Mixed dark berries (strawberries, raspberry, blackberry, and/or blueberry), fresh ginger, honey, sparkling water, and lemon is optional.
  • When to serve: For a refreshing, non-alcholic drink, a healthy replacement for soft drinks, or for fun summer mocktail everyone will love.
  • Dietary information: This recipe fits a Mediterranean diet, gluten free, and dairy free, as well as vegetarian. This would not fit a HYH diet if you use raspberry and lemon, but is easy to edit.
  • Why you’ll love it: This simple berry mocktail recipe is naturally invigorating, mood-boosting, and delicious. Dark berries have neuroprotective benefits and are a great anti-inflammatory fruit. Not only are you avoiding alcohol, but also having a drink rich in antioxidants that is delicious and refreshing.

Sometimes called a “berry bliss mocktail” or “berry blast mocktail” the combo of mixed berries is a twist on my famous blueberry mocktail. I’ll show you how to make these into fun berry ice cubes that you can store ahead – perfect for parties.

Ingredients for a berry mocktail including frozen mixed berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries) with sparkling water, honey, and ginger.

Ingredients

  • Frozen wild berry blend – This is the easiest and least expensive method to use for this recipe. Find a blend with dark berries – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Don’t get too hung up on the mixture – any combination can be used. Some have pomegranate which would also be ok. It doesn’t have to be this exact blend, just most of these fruits. While you can use fresh, frozen berries are picked at the height of flavor and will make the most flavorful, colorful mocktail.
  • Ginger root – Fresh ginger adds a great complimentary flavor and anti-inflammatory properties. While dried ginger can be used in a pinch, it’s more ideal for baking rather than mocktails.
  • Honey or maple syrup – Both are used as a sweetener. Maple syrup mixes better into cold liquids, but since we’re blending this recipe, the honey will work too.
  • Lemon – Lemon juice really highlights the flavor of the berries, but if you’re looking for a low histamine option or on the HYH diet, just omit this or substitute pomegranate juice.
  • Sparkling water or club soda – Mocktails are best with sparkling water or club soda that has high carbonation. Topo chico is one of the best for this. Fever tree, Canada Dry, or Q will also work. Ginger ale makes a great variation.

Berry Mocktail Variations

This mixed berry mocktail is easy to make into whatever you’re feeling that night! Here are some variations

  • Mixed berry mojito mocktail – Use this blueberry mojito mocktail as an example.
  • Berry moscow mule mocktail – Use your favorite ginger beer instead of sparkling water.
  • Berry lavender mocktail – Add 2 fresh culinary lavender buds and blend those with the fresh berries, then strain.
  • Fresh berry mocktail – Use fresh berries instead of frozen for a lighter flavor.

Berry Ice Cubes

A fun twist that is perfect for summer BBQ’s or parties, even baby showers, are these berry ice cubes with natural electrolytes. They’re a built in berry mocktail that you can have ready to go in the freezer. They also pair well with different types of flavored sparkling waters.

Step 2: Freeze for up to 12 hours. Top with sparkling water. This would pair well with a blueberry, cranberry, lemon, or pomegranate flavored sparkling water.

Storage Information

Leftover berry juice? Use it as a wellness juice shot, similar to these immunity shots. The berry juice will store in the fridge for up to one week.

Berry electrolyte cubes can be stored in the freezer for up to 4 months. This is also a great way to make this berry mocktail ahead for parties. Serve a variety of sparkling water flavors so guests can compliment the cubes with whatever they like.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen wild berry blend
  • 1 ounce peeled fresh ginger root
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced (optional), about 1 1/2 tablespoons
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 12 ounces sparkling water
  • Fresh mixed berries for garnish

Instructions

  • Blend berries, ginger, honey, lemon and water in a high powered blender for 30 seconds on high, until well combined. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer, using as spoon to push the juice through the strainer until only the pulp remains.
  • Add 1/4-1/3 cup of the berry juice to a bottom of a glass with crushed ice. Top with sparkling water and fresh berries.
  • For berry electrolyte cubes – Combine the strained berry mixture in step 1 with 1¼ cups of coconut water. Pour into an ice cube mold and add 2-3 fresh berries to each mold. Freeze for up to 12 hours. Top with sparkling water (can be flavored).

Notes

  • Flavored sparkling water – While unflavored sparkling water or club soda can be used, flavored options also work well, especially if making the mixture into berry ice cubes. Pomegranate, cranberry, or lemon are my favorite suggestions for flavorings (I like spindrift).
  • Ginger ale variation – Use ginger ale as a mixer instead of sparkling water or club soda.
  • Berry Electrolyte Ice cubes – If making this, you will need all the ingredients above + 1 1/4 cups coconut water. Berry ice cubes take about 12 hours to fully freeze and will last in the fridge up to 4 months.
