Ingredients

Here are just a few details on ingredients that will help you with what to purchase. Find the full recipe card with amounts at the end of the post.

  • Frozen blueberries – Blueberries are frozen at the height of their season which makes them ideal for this recipe. Plus they lend a beautiful, more concentrated blueberry flavor. Add some fresh blueberries in there for garnish!
  • Mint – Fresh mint, not dried, is a must for the best flavor.
  • Sparkling water – I love to use Topo Chico for mocktails because it has the best carbonation that stands up well to the homemade blueberry mixture.
  • Lime – Lime zest and juice gives this the classic mojito flavor and I personally find it very helpful, however, if you’re doing the Heal Your Headache diet, this would not be permitted. You can omit it or see subs below! Sometimes I find the zest is tolerated better.

Variations

  • Lime juice – If you can’t tolerate lime juice, add 1/4 teaspoon vinegar for a little bit of acidity. Lemon juice can also be substituted for those fine with citrus.
  • Fresh blueberries – While you can use all fresh blueberries the flavor may not be quite as concentrated. They’re best for garnish unless you have really good ones!
  • Ginger – Add a little bit of fresh ginger, or use homemade ginger ale instead of sparkling water!

Storage Suggestions

The blueberry mint mojito base can be placed in a mason jar and stored for up to one week. The mint will get stronger with more time, so be aware it could be stronger by the end of the week!

You can also freeze it into ice cubes, and defrost to use as needed. Or it makes wonderful flavored ice cubes for parties!
