You’ll love pork chops in the air fryer because it does not require a lot of pans or baking dishes and you completely skip searing the pork. You could also use a convection oven to bake these.

Paired with a simple arugula salad or Boursin mashed potatoes for a full meal. And for another favorite air fried pork dish, don’t miss my air fryer pork tenderloin.

Air Fryer Stuffed Pork Chops

One of my favorite things to air fry is pork. It cooks beautifully on the outside and is tender on the inside. The best way to do this is by adding flavor, either in a sauce like this Dijon Air Fryer Pork Tenderloin, or in a stuffing.

These stuffed pork chops in the air fryer use my stuffing balls recipe, which is super popular, for the filling. You’ll love this recipe because:

  • Under 30 minutes – These take between 15-20 minutes in the air fryer once the stuffing is made.
  • Make ahead – Stuff the pork chops ahead of time and refrigerate till you’re ready to air fry them for an even faster meal.
  • Flavorful – This is one the whole family will love – the stuffing is always a hit!
  • Brain healthy – This recipe is migraine diet friendly, contains vegetables in the stuffing, and can be made gluten free and dairy free, if desired.

Air Fryer Recommendations

If you own a convection oven I find that can be substituted, but depending on the size of it, sometimes the cooking time needs to be extended. I recommend a meat thermometer for best results.

  • Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid – This is helpful for a family of 1-2 people who are looking to save space in the kitchen without adding a whole separate appliance. While the air fryer lid is still large, it fits on top of an instant pot, and you can usually store it this way as well. It is the least expensive at roughly $60-70, but I find it doesn’t cook as well.
  • Ninja – One of the most popular air fryers, this comes in 4 quart or a dual, which cooks in two separate baskets at the same time. The XL version comes with a 5.5 quart basket, which would be best for a large family. A 4 quart costs about $99.
  • Philips – Philips air fryers also come in a range of sizes and are better for a larger family as well. They tend to have the best reviews as far as reliability, but are more expensive. A 4 quart air fryer costs about $150.
  • Cosori – This is what I personally used to test this recipe. It’s generally on sale around $85. They also have a great non-toxic air fryer.

Ingredients

Ingredients for stuffed pork chops on a white background.
  • Boneless Pork Chops – Sometimes these are already butterflied for you, other times they’re in a thick piece and you can cut them down the center, but not all the way through. They should be about 1/2 inch thick when laid flat. If thicker, use a meat mallet to pound them to this thickness.
  • Extra virgin olive oil – Butter or ghee can also be substituted.
  • Vegetables – Shallot and celery give the stuffing a lot of great flavor.
  • Sandwich bread – You can use any favorite bread, although I tend to favor a homemade white bread over wheat for the best flavor.
  • Broth – Both vegetable or chicken broth would work here. I like Trader Joe’s Hearty Vegetable or the ones from my cookbook.
  • Poultry seasoning – This is typically a combination of herbs and often used in stuffing recipes. You can use homemade without onions, or Spice Islands (Kroger), or McCormick.

How to Make Stuffed Pork Chops in the Air Fryer

Process photos showing how to make stuffing.

Step 1: Make the stuffing

In a skillet, warm olive oil over medium heat and add chopped celery and shallot. Stir often for 2-3 minutes, until softened. In a small bowl, stir together the shallot/celery mix, parsley, poultry seasoning, bread and broth. Mix together till combined – this is easier using your hands. If the stuffing isn’t holding together well, add a little more broth to the mixture.

Step 2: Stuff the pork chops

Season both sides of the pork with salt and pepper and lightly oil the outsides. Add in the stuffing, securing with toothpicks at the opening.

Step 3: Air fry

Preheat air fryer and cook at 370 degrees Fahrenheit for about 18-20 minutes, turning halfway through. You want the pork chops to be golden brown on the outside. They are ready when they register at least 145 degrees F on a meat thermometer placed in the center of the pork chop loin (not the stuffing).

Convection Oven Instructions

If using a convection oven, I’ve had success baking these on a sheet pan at 370 degrees Fahrenheit for roughly 20-25 minutes, depending on the size of the convection oven. Smaller ovens will cook more rapidly than large. Check it at the 20 minute mark with a meat thermometer.

Substitutions

  • Gluten free – Use a gluten free sandwich bread like Canyon Bakehouse.
  • Butter – Substitute in butter or ghee for the olive oil.
  • Broth – Chicken broth or vegetable broth are recommended and can be used interchangeably.

I don’t recommend other substitutions without it changing the integrity of the recipe.

Should I sear pork chops before air frying?

It’s a myth that you cannot get them to have that lovely golden brown outside if you’re not searing them in a pan. The trick is to lightly oil them on the outside, and then turn halfway through so they get golden brown on both sides.

You can brush them with olive oil or avocado oil, or use a spray. Whatever is easier!

These stuffed pork chops in the air fryer work well with many different sides. A few of my favorites to serve with them are.

Storage Information

Stuffed pork chops will keep well for up to 3 days in an airtight container in the fridge. They can be frozen for up to 6 months. To reheat in the oven, defrost them overnight in the fridge. Cover with foil and reheat at 300 degrees F for about 15-20 minutes, or until just heated through. To reheat in the air fryer, cook at 320 degrees F for about 10-15 minutes.

To make ahead, prepare up to the point of air frying and place them in the fridge. You can do this up to 1 day ahead. Then air fry according to the directions.

Recipe FAQ

Can I use bone-in pork chops?

Yes, but I find bone-in pork chops to be on the thinner side at my store, so adjust accordingly with cooking time – it may be closer to 15 minutes. Cut a slit along the meat side just to the bone to stuff them.

Could I substitute chicken breasts?

My next goal is to make this recipe with chicken breasts! I’d decrease the cooking time to 15 minutes for that as well to try out. If you do, let me know how it goes!

Equipment

  • 1 Air fryer or convection oven

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of butterflied pork loin chops (about 3-4 of them)*
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 shallot, 1/3 cup chopped
  • 1/4 cup parsley, finely chopped
  • 3/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 3 slices sandwich bread, about 2 cups, cubed into 1/2 inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable or chicken broth
  • Kosher salt and black pepper
  • Parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • In a small skillet, warm 1 teaspoon of olive oil over medium heat and add chopped celery and shallot. Stir often for 2-3 minutes until softened. In a large bowl, stir together the shallot/celery mix, parsley, poultry seasoning, bread and broth. Mix till combined (this is easier using your hands). If the stuffing isn't holding together well, you can add a little more broth to the mixture.
  • Preheat the air fryer for about 5 minutes at 370F. Season both sides of the pork with salt and pepper and lightly oil the outside with either with a brush or spray. Add in the stuffing, securing with toothpicks at the opening. Cook the pork chops at 370 degrees F for about 18-20 minutes, turning halfway through. You want the pork chops to be golden brown on the outside. If they look like they're cooking too fast at the halfway point, lower the cooking time.
  • Stuffed pork chops are ready when they register at least 145 degrees F on a meat thermometer placed in the center of the pork chop loin (make sure you're not in the stuffing part). Allow the pork chops to rest at least 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • If you can’t find butterflied pork chops in the store, have the butcher do for you or cut through the thickest part to the edge, without cutting all the way through – so it looks like a pork taco. These should be about 1/2 inch thick. If they’re too thick, you can pound them with a meat mallet.
  • Air fryers can vary greatly in how they cook – I find smaller ones cook faster than larger ones or convection ovens. When you flip halfway through, if it’s starting to already look very golden brown, cut down on the time.

I used your recipe as a jumping off point. I made my own stuffing with challah bread, dried onions, garlic, parsley and blended that in my little blender. I made a small batch since it was just for me.
I seasoned the pork, added the filling and rolled them up.
I also had a baby greens salad, with a hard boiled egg, a couple of dried Blueberries and a couple of tart cherries on the top. Topped with some Vidalia onion dressing, it was terrific! Thanks for the inspiration!

I love this recipe! It has quickly become a regular menu item. The savory Homemade stuffing is the best. If you like Alicia’s stuffing balls you will love this. A quick cook in the air fryer is just another bonus.

I cant Believe there’s not a ton of reviews on this yet! I just Made this for dinner and it was so easy and so flavorful. I’m always up for a recipe that looks fancy and seems like you probably spent a lot of time on it, but was actually very simple and an easy weeknight meal. My husband is out of town and I’m juggling three kiddos (6 months to 6 years old) and this meal was such a life saver. The kids loved it as well! Thanks Alicia!
