A twist on the classic recipe, which uses cranberry juice instead of orange, this holiday wassail will bring back Christmas memories! Just pour all the ingredients into your crock pot or in a pot on the stovetop and enjoy the amazing scent that will fill your home.
Add all the ingredients to a 6 quart pot or dutch oven and bring to a boil over medium high heat, quickly turning the heat down to low to maintain a gentle, steady simmer. Simmer for about 30 minutes until the spices have infused the juice. You can continue to simmer for 1 hour total on very low heat. Remove the apples, cloves and cinnamon sticks with a slotted spoon or mesh strainer before serving.
Slow Cooker Method
Combine all the ingredients in a slow cooker and set the temperature for low and time for 1-3 hours. After 3 hours, either keep on warm or strain the apples, cinnamon sticks, and cloves out of the mixture and serve.
Notes
Mixture too tart? Adding in honey to taste will help to balance this more. You can also add additional apple juice.
Pro tip - If you don't want to fish around for the cloves, stick them into the apple slices so they stay all together.
Storage - Freeze into ice cubes for long term storage, or this can keep in your fridge for up to one week. Save the juice bottles to pour the wassail back into!
Garnish with fresh cranberries, cinnamon sticks, star anise, or fresh rosemary for a festive look.
